CAN YOU LIGHT YOUR WORKSHOP WITH LED STRIP LIGHTS?

Fear of the dark

Well not so much fear, more like not being able to see and having to work by lamp light.

My workshop is situated in a lean-to on the side of the house and doesn’t have any lighting built into it. All it has is a double mains socket into which I plug a couple of mains extension leads and for lighting I have been relying on a couple of desk lamps. The biggest problem with desk lamps being that they cast really dark shadows at night which makes it very difficult to see what you’re working on.

Having proper lighting installed is sadly not an option for reasons, so I wondered if there was a cheap, safe, effective and reliable way to get some decent lighting in the shop.

The thought occurred that I could use some of the cheap mains voltage LED lighting strips that you can get cheaply on eBay and Amazon, but wasn’t able to find any information from people as to whether this would be suitable for area lighting in a workshop. There were plenty of YouTube videos about how to use LED strips for ambient lighting and accents in a room, but none showing how much white light an LED strip could produce.

So I bought myself a couple of these from eBay – https://ebay.us/duYTR3

Did it work?

The only way to know if it would work was to try it.

So I made a YouTube video all about it so you can see for yourself 👍
